Get rid of Ads on Google Chrome Using AdBlockDate: 27-01-2015 Category: Internet Speed up
If you want to remove those annoying ads within your Google Chrome you need to get some extension that will block them. AdBlock and AdBlock Plus are by far the most famous and the most effective. Also, both of these extensions are free and belong to different developers, even though the names are very similar. It’s up to you to choose which one you like the most.
AdBlock Installation. Open your Google Chrome browser and click this link or download from rizen.biz. Now you should be on the page of AdBlock extension. To install it simply click the blue+ FREE button (see the image above). A new tab will be opened and the extension will be quickly installed.
If the previous method doesn’t work for you, you may try AdBlock Plus. In the section below you will find a mini tutorial for AdBlock Plus. Both of the extensions are almost identical and blocking all of those annoying ads by default. The only difference between AdBlock and AdBlock Plus are their business models.
Click the AdBlock icon to see extension’s options. The icon is located on the right side of the address bar and looks like a red hexagon with a hand in the middle (see the image above). Click on the icon and you will be able to see the options described below.
If you already see some numbers on the AdBlock icon, it means that the extension has already blocked some ads on the web page you are currently viewing and that number corresponding the amount of blocked ads. However, you are able to disable that at the options menu by unchecking “Show on AdBlock button”.
Block any ad that you want. Mostly you will not see any ads, since AdBlock automatically blocking all of the ads on all pages, however if you see some ad that bypassed AdBlock you can easily block it by following instructions below:
Click on the AdBlock icon and select “Block an ad on this page”. Also, you can right click on the ad that you want to block and select “AdBlock” and then “Block this ad”.
Move your mouse cursor over the ad until it is highlighted in blue and then click.
Continue moving the slider until the ad vanishes. The slider will be displayed as a pop-up window. You can drag it around the screen if you need to see something beneath it.
When you are done click on the “Looks good” and the ad will be blocked forever.
Modify various options. Click on the icon of AdBlock to see the options list and then click on “Options” (see the image above). It will open a new tab in your web browser where you will be able to see various options. Most of them are obvious and self-explanatory, however there are some complex options that we will describe below:
To disable some ad blocking on specific YouTube channels (channel supporting) enable the YouTube whitelist option. To do that you will need to open the video on that YouTube channel and click on the AdBlock icon. After that simply select “Whitelist” option.
There are some additional features which are not fully functional. If you want to use them on your own risk simply check the “Advanced Options”. Features are bypassing Hulu.com ad-blocking detection and synching your personal settings with other computers with Dropbox.
Add some filter lists. If you have the problem with catching ads and you see a lot of them bypassing AdBlock you probably need to update your filters or just add ads types to the list that AdBlock uses to identify what to block. To do so you need to click on the icon and go to “Options”, after that click on “Filter Lists” it is located at the top of the screen. To automatically update filters you can click on “Update Now” and the recommended filters list will be updated.
In the “Filter Lists” you may find “Antisocual” filter which blocks all social media buttons, “Fanboy’s Annoyances” which additionally to social media buttons also blocks pop-ups and other ads. To get more information about filters just look at the description before you set it up, otherwise it may block something that you use.
Also you may find “Customize” link, it allows you to add your own filters by yourself. You better read the instructions in the filters section or the AdBlock Plus tutorial before applying your own filters.
Disable AdBlock. To disable AdBlock simply click on the icon and select “Pause AdBlock”. If you want to disable the AdBlock permanently on the webpage you are viewing just select “Don’t run on this page” or “Don’t run on pages in this domain” and the AdBlock will be paused from all web pages on the same website.
